DUCA Financial Services Celebrates Grand Opening

Toronto, June 3, 2009 – DUCA Financial Services Credit Union Ltd. hosted the official grand opening of its new building at 5290 Yonge Street, just north of Mel Lastman’s Square, on June 3rd 2009. The event was attended by over 80 invited guests and dignitaries including Mr. John Filion, Councillor Ward 23 (Willowdale) and Mr. Johan Kramer, Consul General of the Netherlands.

Mr. Ralph Kikkert, DUCA’s Board Chair pointed to this new first class building as evidence of both DUCA’s long term commitment to the communities it serves and its innovative culture as evidenced through the stunning green roof incorporated into the design of the facility. In his speech, architect Mr. Hendrik Op’t Root, added: “The addition of this environmentally friendly feature is not only aesthetically pleasing but helps reduce operating costs of the building.”

Mr. Jack Vanderkooy, President and CEO spoke of the symbolism of the building to members and employees when he stated “We are committed to our members by providing a fi rst class facility in which they can do all their banking and wealth management. In terms of our employees we wanted to create an environment that fosters creativity, team work, comfort and a great place to work.”

Mr. Johan Kramer, Consul General of the Netherlands was also invited to speak as a tribute to the credit union’s Dutch Canadian roots. He complimented DUCA for being a progressive financial institution showing “Go Green” thinking and supporting micro finance through its partnership with Opportunity International Canada.

Councillor John Filion, the final speaker of the evening, presented a congratulatory letter on behalf of Mayor David Miller and the City of Toronto which stated “the celebration of this milestone anniversary is an opportunity to reflect upon the tremendous accomplishments of DUCA Financial Services and the sense of security it has brought to its members through financial well being.”

Before the formal ribbon ceremony, the City of Toronto and Consul General of the Netherlands were each presented with an original painting by Dutch-Canadian artist Mr. Sabelis, and a donation made in their behalf in support of Opportunity International Canada, to enable those in the developing world to move from subsistence poverty to sustainable income.
