DUCA Bank Rollers Ride to Conquer Cancer

Toronto, June 18, 2010

“And here come the DUCA Bank Rollers, congratulations and thank you!” were the words blasted out over the loudspeakers around 4:30 PM on June 13th, as the DUCA team crossed the finish line in Niagara Falls to the cheering of hundreds of well wishers and supporters of the Princess Margaret Hospital Ride to Conquer Cancer.

On Saturday morning, June 12th, under heavily overcast skies that threatened rain, the DUCA Bank Rollers gathered with 4,100 other riders at Exhibition Place to start the epic journey to Niagara Falls.  This is the third year that DUCA entered a team in the Ride to Conquer Cancer, and this year, wanting an extra challenge, the team decided to ride the 200 mile route over two days,  rather than the 200 km route from previous years.  The ride was a real challenge, and in spite of torrential rain on Saturday and wet roads the rest of the ride, the team of six prevailed and finished the ride together.

The team raised $23,184, which topped their goal of $22,500!  The total raised in this ride was $16.1 Million with all proceeds going to the Campbell Family Institute at the Princess Margaret Hospital with the goal to end cancer in our lifetime.

This event was another example of the DUCA spirit, supporting our communities and raising money for those less fortunate, in this case, for cancer research.
